Congratulations to GC Art History PhD candidate Haeyun Park, who has won a six-month grant from the Asian Cultural Council that will support her dissertation research on the trans-Pacific development of video art.

Park examines the emergence of what she calls “object-oriented video” in the work of Korean, Japanese, and Asian-American artists from the 1970s to the 1980s. Her article on the work of contemporary Korean artist, Kim Sangdon, in which the statue of general McArthur installed in Korea enters into “a complex circuit of postcolonial visual politics and shamanist mimesis of alterity,” was published in the special issue of the Journal of Chinese Contemporary Art (Vol. 3, No. 3) on the subject of “Contemporary Art and Ecology in East Asia.”
