Alumni News: Getty Research Institute Names LeRonn P. Brooks Associate Curator for Modern and Contemporary Collections

Congratulations to the Graduate Center Art History Program alumnus Dr. LeRonn P. Brooks, who will be joining the Getty Research Institute in June as Associate Curator for Modern and Contemporary Collections, specializing in African American art.

As the institution’s press release details, “Brooks fills a position newly created as part of the Getty Research Institute’s African American Art History Initiative, an ambitious program launched last year to establish the Getty Research Institute as a major center for the study of African American art and art history.”

Currently an assistant professor in the Africana studies department at Lehman College in New York, Brooks was also a curator of the Racial Imaginary Institute’s exhibition “On Whiteness” (2018) at the Kitchen and the “Bronx: Africa” for the Bronx Council on the Arts (2016). In 2009, Dr. Brooks completed his dissertation,  “Paradigms for Freedom: Hale Woodruff, the New Negro, and Landscape,” under the advisement of Professor Katherine Manthorne at the CUNY Graduate Center.
