Student News: Michelle Millar Fisher Named Curator of Contemporary Decorative Arts at MFA Boston

A big congratulations to Michelle Millar Fisher,  who will assume the role of  Ronald C. and Anita L. Wornick Curator of Contemporary Decorative Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston on July 1st.

“Michelle is a brilliant curator, a dedicated teacher and scholar, and an emphatic community builder,”  Reto Thüring, the chair of the MFA’s department of contemporary art, told Artforum. “She will bring the vision, energy, and collaborative spirit to Boston and the MFA that will help write an exciting next chapter for contemporary decorative art, craft, and design.”

Fisher is a doctoral candidate in the PhD Program in Art History at the CUNY Graduate Center, where she is currently finishing her dissertation, “Nothing is Transmissible but Thought: Le Corbusier’s Radiant City in Diaspora” at the Graduate Center, CUNY,” advised by Professors Romy Golan and Kevin Murphy.

She is currently assistant curator of European decorative arts and design at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where she is working on the forthcoming exhibition, “Designs for Different Futures,” opening next October. In her role as a curatorial assistant at the MoMA from 2014 to 2018, she helped organize the exhibitions “This Is for Everyone: Design Experiments for the Common Good” (2015–16); “From the Collection, 1960–1969” (2016–17); and “Items: Is Fashion Modern?” (2017–18).
