Student News: Patryk Tomaszewski Co-Organizes “The Female Gaze: Women Surrealists in the Americas and Europe”

On view through July 31 at Heather James Fine Art, The Female Gaze features a diverse selection of works by American, British, Latin American, and East Central European modern and contemporary female artists associated with Surrealism. “Though often critically marginalized, these uncompromising visionaries rebelled against the prevailing cultural norms and expressed the workings of their own inner psyches and desires,” the exhibition press release notes.

The show is accompanied by a fully-illustrated catalogue including essays by Tomaszewski and Gloria Orenstein, Professor Emerita of Comparative Literature and Gender Studies at University of Southern California.
